Foam rots, that’s just the way it rolls kid. So if you are playing music live for the long haul, at some point your expensive (aren’t they all?) case is going to seem more and more useless as you dust bits of dry rotten foam off your synth at every gig. Those bits get into your synth and before you know.. dead synth and useless case! I’ve had two cases in use for nearly 20 years and yeah.. that foam wasn’t even foam anymore so much as compressed sludge. I’ve dodged refoaming it for a loooong time but with some upcoming gigs involving flight time it was time to step up to the task or buy a new case. Well, apparently refoaming your synth case is a pain in the ass AND expensive. At least, that’s the main feeling I was having after calling Calzone/Anvil to refoam my case. The cost after calling them? $150.00 (US) just to have them mail me the replacement foam. $250.00 to have them take your case and do it for you. That ain’t cheap. Well, I’m all for dropping loot on new gear but foam? Fuck that. Let’s do it ourselves. I started looking around for a foam supplier and I found a great company called Canal Rubber (www.canalrubber.com) who has been “Serving your rubber needs at the same location since 1954″. Truth. So after measuring the interior sizes of my case I called them and got a quote for “high density 1″ grey foam”. The cost? $40.00… INCLUDING the cost of them cutting the individual pieces I needed. SOLD. So here’s what ya’ need to do to refoam that case of yours:
