The Genitorturers
“Machine Love”

(4/5)
(1999)
This disc contains 8 tracks and is primarily remixes of tracks from the 1998 Sin City LP. Gen has an amazing voice with just the right amount of rasp. She sounds a little similar to kaRin, the vocalist from Collide, but with more edge. The Genitorturers are proof that this sort of music isn’t dead.
The production sounds a bit low-budget. Many of the sounds could be better, but the composition itself is quite excellent. It will be very interesting to see how future releases by this artist sound. They have put together a shiny new 2002 release titled “Flesh is the Law”, but I haven’t had an opportunity to check it out yet. When the Divinyls did the song “I Touch Myself”, it was interesting, but mostly annoying. The Genitorturers show you how the song should have sounded, and is an excellent example of an industrial edge really making a song stand out. If for no other reason, you should check out the disc because of this song.
The song “Procession” has a lot of power. It definitely has the “wall of sound” feel to it and is quite possibly the best song on the disc. The signature of KMFDM on the remix of Sin City is unmistakable. Although the song is Genitorturers, it is very much like KMFDM. The lyrics fit well into the KMFDM style, and with Gen’s raspy edge it makes a great song to cause trouble to.
The Genitorturers don’t seem to have put much effort into writing and releasing new material over the years, but their live shows are the main reason to check out this group. They put on the sort of BDS&M show that’ll make your mother tell you to wash your mind out with soap and water.
The Genitorturers consist of vocalist extraordinaire GEN, guitarist Chains, bassist Evil D and drummer Angel.
