This is a kick-ass collection of trip-hop from a wide variety of groups. I don’t even remember where I got this – probably in the clearance bin of some used record store – but I will be eternally grateful I did. It ranges from beat-focused samplefests (e.g. Coldcut, Meat Beat Manifesto, Lecture on Nothing) to gorgeous, dreamy female vocals (Halou, Bugs, Honeypot, etc.).The only down side (anthologies always have them, unfortunately) is “couch surfer” by Bran Van 3000 – an ill-advised attempt at humor that mars an otherwise totally enjoyable collection.
